![]() ![]() Examples being: some mobile games being top-down and having you simply attack in the direction your character is facing facing (thus removng camera controls from the equation), being first-person and keeping your view focused on your opponent at all times, or giving you free camera movement but keeping your character in one spot. It's harder and less comfortable than you think to move/strafe, aim, AND attack/shoot at the same time on a mobile device (even when ignoring the fact that most mobile apps allow 2 different finger inputs at most) unless at least ONE of those is handled by the game. Hence why most mobile games that use more than one finger/thumb have the controls as close to the lower corners of the game screen as possible without conflict. Mobile devices? You've got TWO thumbs at best, one of which is occasionally replaced with your writing finger, and EVERY game function has to be within comfort range. ![]() With console controllers, you only use your thumbs and index fingers, but everything's usually within reach for smooth gameplay, so no problems there. With PC, you've got one hand on your mouse, and the other hand has FIVE fingers (or 10 if playing a game that doesn't use the mouse (though most of those games these days allow the use of a controller instead)) that are free to move wherever you need them to. But if you said to make the same changes on mobile to let it use the same system? Yeah, it could work.if mobile players had the ease and manuverability to manage the same smooth/flawless movements. For one, even if the function you suggest were to be made PC-exclusive, the mobile version would STILL have to have most of the same changes performed so that the two versions' control methods don't conflict with each other. A factor that opens its own can of worms. They could still do it if they wanted to, but you have to ask yourself: would implement this system, which is used in few MMORPGs simply because it doesn't WORK in most MMORPGs, be worth the weeks/months of no work on other updates, a dwindling playerbase, and a portion of their budget put towards this? Artix is ambitious, I'll tell you that (otherwise this game wouldn't exist in the first place), but he's doesn't like letting people down, as noted with AE's first attempt at a 3D MMO, since many complications involving Flash and other factors forced Artix to reluctantly scrap the initial 3D project (though this failure DID inspire the team to start up Project Omni to prevent such a trajedy from happening again).Ģ) Even if we were to IGNORE EVERYTHING I mentioned up above, you have to remember: this game is ALSO being made for mobile devices. We're talking possibly weeks or MONTHS without anything new released (or even announced), since all of their effort would HAVE to go towards changing the combat system. Problem is: this will push back work on a lot of necessary functions, and everything else that's affected by the combat system will have to be reworked as well. Regardless, though, there are two things that can complicate matters at this point in the game's life:ġ) In order for this system to work, AE would have to change how combat ITSELF works to keep this from being gimmicky. But AQ3D isn't developed that way, prefering to use the standard MMO style, so it wouldn't really serve much purpose in the long run, outside of being a gimmick that relies on manual aiming in a game where auto-target does all the aiming for you while you spam flaming nukes. Dragon Nest and Everquest (since the latter was originally made to be played in first-person)), then it would actually be a nice change of pace from all the other MMOs we've been getting these years. If the combat was developed in such a way where the direction your camera was facing actually mattered (ex. Especially if an MMORPG uses an automatic targeting system that only requires you to have the target selected, and causes your attacks to go towards it automatically. Eh, it's an okay idea, but unless an RPG is made WITH first-person view in mind (or uses VR), it's usually little more than a fancy gimmick that you can use to mess around. ![]()
